I often watch my daughter play and I wonder where she gets her ideas from. One morning last week is a case in point.
Weekday mornings in the Cook household comprise of Daddy Cook waking up long before the rest of us so that he can get ready before his lift arrives. The lift arrives when it’s time for Mommy Cook to wake up. Most of the time when Daddy Cook leaves the little people are still sleeping. So he goes into their room and kisses them goodbye before he sets on his way. Courtney gets most upset if her daddy doesn’t say goodbye to her.
Now and again Courtney wakes up while her beloved Daddy is still at home (did I ever mention what a daddy’s girl she is?). This is when I hear constant chatter coming from the lounge while she talks her daddy’s ear off.
One morning last week she was awake when he left. He told Courtney that it was time for him to go to work. So she said to him that she will walk with him to the door (about 5 steps from the lounge). She walked with her daddy to the door, told him to have a nice day and then kissed him goodbye. When the gate was closed she demanded another kiss (through the gate) and then gave her Daddy some money (pretend). When he asked what the money was for she replied, “To buy food, Daddy”. It was so sweet to hear him tell me this story when I got home from work!
Now I have to wonder where she gets this from. I have never walked him to the door when he has left to go to work, and I have never (that I can recall) given him money to buy food.
Wherever it comes from will remain a mystery. But one thing is for certain, it’s the little gestures like that that really make a person’s day. When you can start your day off with a quiet chuckle (or even a loud one for that matter) then your day is set to be a good one!
